Undoubtedly, this disruptive impact will be extensive and long-lasting, and we expect Africa not to be exempt from it. Already some broad takeaways are emerging regarding what changes are likely to persist going forward.
ID4Africa is organizing this webinar to allow decision-makers in Africa’s identity management a unique opportunity to share with their peers and the worldwide community of experts, the impact they are seeing and the practices being put in place in response to this new reality.

The Moderator
Joseph Atick

Dr. Joseph Atick is a recognized world renowned advocate and expert on identity matters. Having been one of the founders of the identity industry nearly 30 years ago, he led several companies in that domain and developed some of the foundational algorithms underlying secure digital identity today, including the first commercially viable face recognition algorithm. He retired from the industry in 2010 to focus on promoting identity for social and economic development around the world. In that mission he partnered with the World Bank and other UN agencies, and was heavily involved in the development and field testing of the methodology and analytic tools that would guide the subsequent activities in that space, and would lead to the launch of the ID4D initiative at the World Bank. In 2014, he co-founded ID4Africa as a pan-African Movement to promote responsible digital transformations through digital identity in Africa. He is a staunch defender of privacy, data protection and human rights and continues to provide counsel to governments and international organization on the use of identity for public good. Dr. Atick holds a Ph.D. in Mathematical Physics from Stanford University.

Mouhamed Sy

Mouhamed Sy is Coordinator of the Computer Services and Information Systems Unit at the Universal Healthcare Coverage Agency (CMU) of the Republic of Senegal. He oversees the implementation of the Integrated Management Information System for Universal Healthcare Coverage in Senegal. Mouhamed began his career in Paris, in the services and computer engineering sectors. In 2001, he returned to Senegal to join Chaka Computer, within which he later became Director General. Within this area of expertise, he contributed to the launch of Money Express, the first 100% African money transfer network. He also achieved establishing the Callme call center network in Senegal, Mali, Mauritania, Côte d’Ivoire and Guinea. Under his leadership, Chaka Computer will open a credit card personalization and biometric identification solution (Chaka Card Systems) in Côte d’Ivoire. Mouhamed also founded JSURF Consulting, a firm specializing in information systems and telecom consulting, and will be responsible for the launch of the Etrans Payment Systems, Agroway and BankAnywhere brands. He has accompanied the State, through its institutions, on major projects related to ICTs and the digital economy. Mouhamed has an engineering degree in Studies and Development, a Masters in Business Management, and a certificate in Web Technologies.
